1-3 Blogger Blog Reflection

1-3 Blog

Assignment:

In your Blogger blog, reflect on the following:
What are your ideas of what a technology integration specialist is as you previously learned in other SNHU courses? Also, discuss today’s students and teachers as related to their use of technology in and out of the classroom. Use the module resources to assist you in completing this assignment.

My first reaction to this assignment was a chuckle to myself about the evolution of words and language, as a result of modern technology.  Really, "In your Blogger blog" is such a cumbersome mouthful. It is not really all that surprising that those who are hesitant to latch onto technology roll their eyes when hearing us speak.  There is a short article written by Georgina Laidlaw entitled "The Rapid Evolution of Digital Language", this highlights some of the changing world of words, due to technology.

Why did I bring that up? Well, the one thing I have come to learn through my SNHU course work is that technology is constantly evolving and no matter how hard I try, I will not be able to be an expert on everything.  As a bit of a control freak, that was a challenge to accept - if I'm the teacher I need to know it all, right? WRONG!  I need to be a life long learner, prepared to make mistakes and learn from them.  I need to develop strong and inquisitive learning skills for myself and those around me, that are challenging and rewarding.

Over the different portions of my career, one aspect of education became clear to me; curriculum and the delivery of instruction/services were at the core of creating positive change.  For both counselors and teachers, client/student needs can only be met when one takes the time to find an effective form of communicating with the client or student. For success to occur, practices and curriculum need to be created to guide this process.  I believe the role of the technology integration specialist is to help find, share, and collaborate with both people and technological tools that will help to make this happen.

I have also learned that the ISTE NETS for students, teachers, and administrators are a valuable resource and reminder of what needs to happen in and around schools today. Understanding the standards, and taking time to reflect on how they apply to every minute in and out of the classroom is worth the time and effort.

More thoughts will be shared later in the week, as I find time to review more of the module one resources.
